Welcome to the Catholic Community of Holy Family, Sacred Heart,
St. Alphonsus and St. Ann of Auburn, NY
Fr. James Enright
(October 12, 1942--April 29, 2026)
Jim Enright's truly unique half-century of priestly ministry in Auburn concluded at noon today with his death at age eighty-three. An alumnus of Canisius College, Buffalo, and St. John Vianney Seminary, East Aurora, he was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 1969, for the Diocese of Buffalo. After his arrival in Auburn in 1972, he served at St. Alphonsus Church, St. Mary's Church, Auburn, NY and Sacred Heart Church, and for many years as chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Council #207 - K of C and for the Auburn Fire Department. In 1978, he became chaplain at Auburn Correctional Facility, in which challenging position he served until retirement. His gentle ministry touched the lives of individuals and families in every Catholic parish in the city. Well-known for eloquence in the pulpit and for his compassionate presence wherever needed, he was in so many ways a reflection of Père Lacordaire's description of the priesthood: "To be a member of every family, yet belonging to none; to share all sufferings; to penetrate all secrets, to heal all wounds; to bless and be blessed forever." Well done, good and faithful servant!
